Shatta Theatre Troupe is an independent, Egyptian company that was founded in 2004. In the past two years, the Troupe has created two theatrical pieces & is currently working on a third project.
The Troupe combines mediums & human elements to create a coherent theatrical piece. The Troupe has primarily worked on absurd pieces that are self-conscious & socially critical in an attempt to create a forum for re-evaluation & criticism of the state of affairs.
As an Egyptian Troupe, Shatta's work has primarily been related to current occurrences in Egypt. The works, while created by & for Egyptians, are not necessarily specific to Egypt. Thematically & stylistically, the Troupe has created a look & feel to the performances that are accessible to a broader audience.
